It may be a rather daunting procedure for a player to transfer PS4 save data to PS5, which you will need to do if you’re updating your system. While the PS4 is a superb all-arounder with a great selection of AAA titles and a reasonable price, the PS5 has undoubtedly dressed to please.
While you may move PS4 save data to a PS5, there are a few things to keep in mind. It’s terrible that some of the top PS4 titles with a new-gen copy won’t allow you to transfer your data to PS5. If you don’t have PlayStation Plus, you’ll also have to go through a lot of hoops, so we strongly advise that you sign up because, believe us, it will make life much simpler.
Another problem is that if you bought a game on disc and later sold it, you’ll either need to buy it again or buy a digital copy because certain PS5 titles need you to boot up your PS4 copy first and manually download or upload the save file. Marvel’s Spider-Man serves as an illustration of this, as it requires the disc itself to complete the transfer migration procedure.
How to transfer PS4 save data to PS5
Another problem is that the PS5 will probably need you to start over when you load up a game for the first time, unlike the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S. That’s because it lacks the ability to ingest your saved data automatically from the cloud. Thankfully, Sony has resolved many of the issues customers were first running into while attempting to transfer PS4 save data to PS5. As a result, the procedure is now simpler.
Here’s how to transfer PS4 save data to PS5 if you want to continue playing where you left off on PS4, perhaps to finish Bloodborne or earn that platinum trophy in Horizon: Zero Dawn. Oh, and don’t forget to check out our list of the top PS5 games if you’re searching for a fresh adventure.
This is your first choice if you wish to move PS4 save data to a PS5. To prepare your PS4 for data transfer, do the most recent system update. Sign in using the same user account that you intend to use on your PS5.
To speed up the transfer process, join your PS4 to the same Wi-Fi network as your PS5, then link the two consoles together using an Ethernet wire. Your apps, games, and saves will transfer from your PS4 to the PS5 if you follow the on-screen instructions. Even though this procedure is going on, you may still use the PS5 throughout that time.
OPTION 2: DOWNLOAD PS4 SAVE DATA FROM PS PLUS CLOUD STORAGE
Your PS4 save data was probably already uploaded to the cloud if you are a PS Plus subscriber. Turn on your PS4 and go to Settings > Application Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Upload to Online Storage if it hasn’t already done so. Click “yes” after choosing the save file you wish to upload.
Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings and choose Saved Data (PS4) > Cloud Storage to download PS4 save data to your PS5 console. The option to “Download to Console Storage” will then be displayed; choose it to view all of your available save files for download to the PS5’s console storage.
Note: not all save data is compatible with PS5, as it’s down to the discretion of the developer.
OPTION 3: TRANSFER YOUR PS4 SAVE DATA TO PS5 VIA USB
Lacking PS Plus? Data saved on a PS4 may be transferred via USB to a PS5. Go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device after connecting a USB storage device to your PS4. You may copy a save file to a USB device by selecting it and doing so.
When you’ve finished, remove the USB from the PS4 and connect it to the PS5. Select Saved Data (PS4) > USB Drive by going to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings. Following that, you’ll have the choice to Copy to Console Storage.
And that’s all there is to it. You’ll now be able to carry on any hard-earned progress you made on PlayStation 4 on your brand-new PlayStation 5.
