How to enable PS5 3D audio for TV speakers

108

Since Sony integrated 3D audio functionality for TV speakers on the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition in 2021, you may now activate PS5 3D audio for TV speakers. The built-in speakers on your television now let you enjoy Sony’s spatial audio technology, which was previously exclusively available to headphone users.

By improving the sound coming from your TV, the proprietary 3D audio format—response Sony’s to Dolby Atmos—provides a “three-dimensional” audio experience. You can adjust the audio for your space since the PS5 measures the acoustics of your space using the built-in microphone on the DualSense controller to deliver the finest 3D audio setting.

How to enable PS5 3D audio for TV speakers

You’ll need to manually enable 3D audio for TV speakers on PS5, as unlike 3D audio for headphones, it isn’t on by default. To do so, head to Settings > Sound > Audio Output.

‘Enable 3D Audio for TV Speakers’, ‘Apply Measurement Results to 3D Audio’, and ‘Measure Room Acoustics for 3D Audio’ should all be available in the section titled ‘TV’. To begin, make sure the switch labelled “Enable 3D Audio for TV Speakers” is turned on. To activate the DualSense controller, just press the X button.

Measure Room Acoustics for 3D Audio

If you want the best 3D audio experience possible when using your TV speakers, we recommend measuring your room’s acoustics. Click on ‘Measure Room Acoustics for 3D audio’, where you’ll be presented with this screen.

It’s crucial to note that before you start this procedure, you’ll want to make sure your DualSense controller has the most recent firmware update loaded. If your controller is already up to date, select “Next” and carry out the instructions there.

The DualSense controller has to be held up at face level, your TV speakers need to be adjusted to the volume you typically game at, and your environment needs to be as silent as possible throughout the calibration process. When you’re ready, press “Next,” and the microphone on the DualSense controller will begin to pick up some aural signals coming from your TV speakers.

Once calibration is complete, make sure the ‘Apply Measurement Results to 3D Audio’ toggle is ticked.

Congratulations! With PS5 3D audio now enabled for your TV speakers, you may experience greater three-dimensional audio output from your television. You may always take the measurements of your space again till it sounds correct to you if anything doesn’t sound quite right or your calibration procedure was stopped.
