Later this month, Microsoft will launch a new, less expensive subscription option for Microsoft 365, the firm announced on Wednesday.

In addition to 100GB of cloud storage, ad-free and secure email with Outlook, and access to support experts for help with Microsoft 365 and Windows 11, Microsoft said in a statement that the new Microsoft 365 Basic tier for the company’s collection of productivity apps includes these features as well.

The launch date for Microsoft 365 Basic is set for January 30. It will cost $2 per month or $20 for a yearly membership. That is significantly less expensive than the existing $20 yearly OneDrive membership and offers more features than the $70 annual cost for Microsoft 365 Personal.

Later this year, Basic will gain more security features including ransomware recovery and password-protected sharing links in OneDrive in addition to 100GB and ad-free email. When the Microsoft 365 Basic subscription launches later this month, Microsoft says current OneDrive users will be automatically switched to a Basic account.

On the Microsoft website, via the Outlook or OneDrive applications, or both, you may register for Microsoft 365 Basic. According to a statement from Microsoft, the free version of Microsoft 365 will also continue to be accessible.
