How to Factory Reset an iPad for Gifting or Selling

A new iPad purchase is thrilling. You get to enjoy the anticipation of opening the box, experimenting with the new features, and fine-tuning the settings. But before you get too thrilled, you have to face the inevitable dilemma of what to do with your outdated iPad. You have a few alternatives if it’s still functional, like selling it or converting it—possibly into a baby monitor. However, you must first factory reset and wipe it.

You may safeguard any private information that might be left on your iPad by wiping it clean and doing a factory reset before you give it away or sell it. You can save a lot of time and frustration by spending a few seconds on this. Here’s how to clean your iPad properly and safeguard yourself when transferring between devices.

Before you erase, be sure to back up

Before you delete and reset your iPad, you must first back it up if you want to save the data that is currently on it. Although there are a few methods to back up your iPad using a Mac or Windows PC, utilising iCloud is the simplest option.

By heading to Settings > your name at the top of the page > iCloud > iCloud Backup, you may perform an iCloud backup. Select “Turn on iCloud Backup” next. Once you’ve turned on iCloud Backup, your iPad should automatically do a backup once per day when it’s plugged in, connected to the internet, and locked.

If you want to manually back up your iPad you will follow the same steps as above but once you get to iCloud Backup select “Back Up Now.”  You can view previous backups by going to Settings > your name at the top of the page > iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups.

A helpful tip for backing up your devices: Make sure whatever you are backing up is connected to both your home internet and a power source. This ensures that you aren’t draining your battery or your data while you back up your devices.

Time to erase

Now that you’ve saved your data, it’s time to erase your device. Like backing up your iPad, there are two ways to erase your device: with your Mac or Windows PC, or on your iPad. Again, the easier option is to reset directly from the iPad.

To erase your device go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad and then tap “Erase All Content and Settings.”

Now that all of your personal data is safely backed up and your iPad is completely wiped, you can fully revel in the joys of selecting a new iPad or other tablets.
